6 Steps to Get the Most From Your Classes

Do you want to excel in your course? Be the best you can be? How much do you want it? Think how great it could feel to be on top of your subject, understanding and enjoying everything you have to learn, acing your tests and assignments. As Sean Connery says in The Untouchables, What are you prepared to do?! Do you go to class wanting to get as much as you can from it, or do you see it as a necessary evil to be endured as part of your course? Do you sit passively waiting for the class to finish or do you treat it as a job, and work hard to do the best you can? Your attitude will be determine to a large extent how well you succeed in your course, more than any other factor. But luckily your attitude is under your control; you can choose how its going to be! So, decide to make the most of it, and you will! And, if thats what you want to do, than heres a few pointers about how to go about making the most of your time in class or lectures:

  1. Treat it like a job. You are there for a reason; to learn as much as you can, and reach your potential in your chosen subject, excel even! Its your job to do a good job!
  2. Be proactive, not passive. Be aware of what you need to learn, and make sure you are learning it. Be conscious of what you understand in class, jot down notes about things you are not clear about and make it your task that day to find out more about them, either by asking questions or doing some further reading. Take responsibility for your own progress, instead of waiting for the teacher to tell you how you are doing.

Look over your material for that day before the class, if you know what its going to be. See how much you can understand by yourself. Notice the things you have difficulty with. Then, when your teacher or lecturer comes to that part of the text, your mind will focus as soon as you hear it, your attention and concentration will be heightened, and you will absorb the new knowledge much faster. You will also have more time to concentrate on the difficult parts, because it wont be all completely new to you.

Revise the material then, within a day and make revision notes.

  3. Learn to ask questions. Learn how to ask questions. Dont be afraid, there are probably more students in your class who need the same clarification. Just make sure they are specific. Instead of I dont understand, for example, specify as closely as you can where you find yourself getting lost. The very act of composing an intelligent question in your mind will help you find the answer yourself seven times out of ten! The lecturer or teacher will always appreciate the fact that you are thinking for yourself and the class will benefit from the interaction and the discussion which may follow.
  4. Pay attention to the obvious things: be punctual; sit in a good seat where you can concentrate, be part of the class and be away from people who are not focussed; keep up with the reading and homework and dont let things slide even if you do, dont give up, get right back into it as soon as you can. Ask for help if you need to get back on track. Your teacher will appreciate your honesty, especially if you come up with a plan to catch up say, an extra chapter a night for a week.
  5. Learn how to take good class notes. (See below)
  6. Concentrate on the positives. All walks of life have tedious parts. Dont moan, try and get through boring parts by setting yourself a challenge to finish them in a record time. Remember this very important point: you get back what you put in. If you work at your subject honestly, it will be interesting, if you dont, it will be boring.

So you decide. Hows it going to be? Learning can be a wonderful interesting and exciting experience its up to you.

How To Do Aerobics For Maximum Benefit

How is your weight looking these days? When you step on the talking scale in the bathroom, does it ask one of you to get off? Bathroom scales are merciless in that way, because they always tell it like it is, whether you like it or not. Yes, your weight tends to fluctuate up and down, a few pounds up on this day and a few pounds less on that day, but you never really reach that lower figure you want to maintain, right? You can give dirty looks to your bathroom scale all day long, even replace it or throw it out the window, but a better plan would be to start a rigorous health program and a good exercise regime using a new and improved diet plan and good aerobic exercises.

How often do you exercise now? Be honest, this isn't a test. This is a very important question that we should all be asking ourselves, especially as we get older. Fitness is one of the main key components in staying healthy and living well. You don't want to be "living" in a hospital room, do you? Of course there are some things that are out of our control as far as being in a hospital room, but eating healthy and getting sufficient exercise on a regular basis is one of the things that YOU have control over, and too many people take that control far too lightly.

In recent years my wife and I decided to better our diet. We are on the heavier side naturally, but that is not the only aspect to consider. There is no guarantee that skinny or heavy people are always healthy. Bad eating habits can take a toll on your body as well as your mind. In addition, we want our children to adopt healthy eating habits too.

Combined with a proper diet, we all began exercising more. This is something all human beings should want to consider. Your body can really go downhill in a relatively short period of time if you fail to ever make use of it via exercise. Sitting in a chair at your desk in a cubicle every day doesn't help a whole lot. What we all need are some decent aerobic exercises. These are what get the heart pumping and muscles working. Not only do You burn calories, but your body is made stronger. With regular aerobic exercises, you also increase your overall energy levels. This is crucial for folks like me who have an extremely hectic schedule every day. It almost goes without saying that we could all use some extra energy. The sad truth is that so many individuals don't realize that energy depends on diet and exercise. There's no getting around it, these are crucial factors.

Do you need or are you looking for some great aerobic exercises? You may want to do some Internet seraches, since the Internet has a huge supply of diet plans, workout programs, and aerobic exercises to choose from. It's as easy as punching in a quick Google search.

But however you go about it, I would encourage you to seriously consider doing something to be more healthy. You could give up dessert 2-3 times a week, or make it part of your daily routine to go for a walk with your spouse or significant other after dinner. Not a "leisurely" walk, but a brisk pace that will get the heart pumping. Aerobic exercise does not necessarily mean donning special clothes and spending 2 hours at rigorous exercise daily. While that would be good for you, most people today just don't have that kind of time to devote to it. Which is ok, just be sure to do something, and gradually increase that something to receive the maximum benefit from your efforts.

Time Management In College

One of the biggest concerns of college students is how they are going to juggle everything and keep everyone happy. Most people think (sometimes parents included) that college is a time of fun and little stress. Those that have gone to college may remember that studying, keeping up and lack of sleep is far from a walk in the park. There are several issues, events and social interactions that college students are expected to maintain all in limited time. There are many stressors during this time of life and can leave students frustrated as well as exhausted. The worries of balancing academics, sports, friends, family, employment and sleep are worrisome. Managing time is not only a difficult task for college students, but also the general population. Here are some great ways to manage time and still get everything done, or close to it anyway!

Understanding Your Internal Clock

No, we are not talking about your alarm clock that rings two hours too early every morning. Did you even know that you have an internal clock? This can be seen by the difference in people and their sleep habits. Ever noticed that some people regardless of an alarm clock or not wake up 7:00 am on the dot, regardless of what time they went to bed the night before. Others have trouble waking up regardless of the fact that the alarm clock has been screaming for an hour. This is because their internal clock is preset and is different from person to person. So what does this have to do with time management? Understanding when you have the best concentration, feel your best and are the most alert will help you determine the best time to study. Studying is a huge factor and time stealer of college students, so make the most of the session.

If you are an early bird then plan on studying in the morning, at breakfast or shortly there after. If this is your alert time and when you are best able to learn or retain information than make the most of it. On the other hand if you are a night own and are best able to work or understand at dark then study at night. The only concern with studying at night is the fact that you may be tired from a hard days work and have trouble concentrating. Remember the importance of knowing your body to understand when you are at your best, that way you will not spend hours spinning your wheels and not get any studying done.

Having Appropriate Tools

Make sure that you invest in a pocket calendar so that you can manage your time and make sure that you make your appointments as well as engagements. Keeping up with events and upcoming dates is one of the most important aspects of managing time. That way you do not overbook yourself and promise the weekend meal with your family the same time as a banquet or other social engagement.

As far as academics it is important to have the appropriate material, texts and study guides to make the most of your academic time. If you will spend a little extra time and take good notes, keep your material organized then you will not spend half your time looking for your homework! Unorganization is a leading loss of time for everyone on the planet!

Balancing Social VS Academics

Finding time between keeping up with your academic work and your friends is sometimes very strenuous. Everyone wants to go out and eat, spend a day on the lake or watch a movie instead of writing an English essay. It is important to keep your studies up though because it is easy to fail a class. Not only does this cost you or your parents an arm and leg, but it also puts you behind. You came to college to earn a degree in academics not socializing. There is a time and place for everything, but put your college career first. Allot so much time to your friends, sports and other activities in order to avoid running out of time. If something must be skipped make sure that is not your school work. If you miss a test or perform poorly, your grades, scholarship and other financial aid status can suffer, but your friends will forgive you.

As for balancing sports and academics, you have to do just that, balance it. This can be a very trying feat because both can take a great deal of dedication and time. Again remember that you will not be able to continue your sports and be the star of the basketball team if you flunk out. Ever heard of the “no pass no play rule”? It gets excellent athletes all the time, how good are you on the bench?

Rid of Distractions

If you are trying to achieve a goal and there are several distracting factors you probably will not accomplish them. Ridding or removing the distractions is the best way to get your wish list completed in record time. Background music or other slight noise is acceptable during study time, but rap music, loud music or the blasting television needs to be eliminated. You can not study when your friends are having a party or a loud get together in the next room either. Pick a time and place that is quite and free of distractions to study.

How Location Based Services Are Mis-used?

The Global Positions System (GPS) satellites are free for anyone to use. However, to use it, a GPS receiver is required which is not free. In recent years these GPS receivers have become very small and embedded in mobile phones. This has given rise to many location based services. Though there are many LBS applications that are very useful, there are a few applications that are misused.

One of the location-based services as mentioned at http://www.m-indya.com is Child Tracking. In a study carried out by New Media Technologies students (2005) in Australia, they have detailed how this service can be misused. They state that,

In 1998 the US implemented the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act 1998 which limits the ways Web site operators and others may collect and disseminate information pertaining to customers under the age of 13. So far, Australia has not followed suit and does not seem to have a law, which directly protects children from technology such as the Internet. With the introduction of global positioning systems for tracking purposes, the issue of child protection needs to be addressed before this technology gets into the wrong hands and used for malicious purposes.

Some of the other consequences that may occur due to these services are the problem of parent-child relationship and also marital relationship. In their study they point out parents should negotiate with their teenagers an agreeable form of knowing where they are whether it be GPS on their phone or just a phone call to let them know where they are. This will ensure that the relationship will not be damaged through a form of mistrust.

And even between spouses each needs a bit of their own space and privacy, which will be jeopardised by the use of this service and may cause problems in marital relationships.

In a ZDNet news by Lisa Bowman (1999) speaks of some scary scenarios where this technology can be misused such as, Insurance companies could refuse to insure you, or charge you higher rates, unless you install a tracking system on your car. They could then tell if you drive over 55 or spend time in shady neighbourhoods where your car has a greater chance of being stolen. Or FBI and local police officials could have access to your whereabouts by simply logging onto a database attached to a cell phone, tollbooth or GPS tracker.

In yet another case a rental car company was sued by the customer for tracking him down using GPS. In a case that could help set the bar for the amount of privacy drivers of rental cars can expect, a Connecticut man is suing a local rental company, Acme Rent-a-Car, after it used GPS (Global Positioning System) technology to track him and then fined him $450 for speeding three times. (Robert Lemos, 2001).

A Wireless week (2003) article lists how even location based games can be misused. In Sweden, thousands of wireless game subscribers stalk each other using cell phones and location technology. In Japan, you can use a GPS-enabled cell phone to arrange a date, an application sometimes used by teenage prostitutes. In many countries around the world, a GPS-based game called "geocaching" is growing in popularity. Ever since Princess Dianas death the perils of stalking has come to the forefront in the media. The availability of such services will only help the stalkers.

As if these are not enough there are other privacy issues related to location based services. If you need further reference visit the website http://www.m-indya.com

Finding a Good Bartending School

To be a bartender is more than just having a knack for pouring drinks, there are a few other criteria that should be met before this career should undertaken, there is product knowledge as well as backup knowledge, a good knowledge of different liquors and there measurements, cocktail knowledge would also be essential but this will all bee taught to you at the school for bartenders.

Negative Amortization Loans: Deferred Interest Mortgages Can Help You Finance Your Dream Home

Negative amortization, or "deferred interest," describes loans that have payment adjustment caps in addition to interest rate adjustment caps. Negative amortization loans calculate two interest rates. The first is called the payment rate the second is the actual interest rate. The payment rate is typically capped at 7.5% of the previous payment. The true interest rate is calculated as simply the index plus the margin without periodic caps. When the interest rate resets to a higher rate with a negative amortization Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM), the mortgage payment doesn't change. Instead, the additional interest expense is added to the loan balance.

Borrowers are given a choice of which rate to pay, which is why negative amortization loans are also referred to as "payment option" loans and option ARMs. Cost of Funds Index (COFI), Cost of Savings Index (COSI), and Monthly Treasury Average (MTA or MAT) are all examples of Alt-A negative amortization loans. The Mortgage Bankers Association of America (MBA) says alt-A loans' share rose from 8% to 11%. Why? Because of the flexibility these loans offer, not to mention affordability for a home purchase loan or if you want to cash out on your home equity with a mortgage refinance.

Some lenders and public officials estimate that 60 percent of today's mortgages have a negative-amortization feature. A survey of 239 of the country's largest savings and loan associations by the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in January found that 33 percent allowed it. Another affordable loan option is the interest only loan. With an interest-only loan, you pay only the interest on the mortgage in monthly payments for a fixed term. After the end of that term, usually five to seven years, you must refinance, pay the balance in a lump sum, or start paying off the principal, which increases your monthly payments substantially. Like negative amortization loans, interest-only loans are option ARMs because borrowers have the option of paying only the interest or paying principal and interest.

Negative amortization and interest-only loans can be useful if you are primarily concerned with cash flow instead of building equity. If you only pay the payment rate, the overall monthly mortgage payment might be lower than a typical 30-year, amortization loan. You might want to consider a negative amortization or interest only mortgage if you're a short-term borrower who plans to refinance or sell the home within a period of a few years or if you have unsteady sources of income or too little documented income to qualify for a traditional loan.
